TechFlow reports that on January 5, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin published a long-form article titled "d/acc: One Year Later," reflecting on the development of his previously proposed d/acc (decentralized defensive acceleration) concept. The article focuses on three key topics: AI safety regulation, cryptocurrency's role in d/acc, and public goods funding.
Regarding AI safety, Vitalik proposes two main strategies: first, establishing accountability by imposing appropriate legal responsibilities on AI users, deployers, and developers; second, implementing a global "soft pause" mechanism at the industrial hardware level, capable of reducing 90–99% of global computing power when necessary.
On cryptocurrency, Vitalik highlights three connections to d/acc: value alignment, early adopter communities, and technological complementarity. He specifically acknowledges the crypto community's contributions in areas such as prediction markets and zero-knowledge proofs.
Concerning public goods funding, the article introduces innovative mechanisms including quadratic funding, retroactive public goods funding, and deep funding, emphasizing the importance of decentralized financing for advancing open-source projects.
Vitalik believes that despite current challenges—rapid technological advancement and diminishing global cooperation—new tools like AI and biotechnology equip humanity with the capacity to address these very challenges.
