TechFlow news, December 30 — According to Cointelegraph, crypto hackers have discovered a new method to trick victims into downloading malware that allows unauthorized access to their computers, steal their wallets, or cause other significant damages.
On-chain investigator Tay Monahan posted on X that hackers first impersonate recruiters from well-known crypto firms, offering targets salaries ranging from $200,000 to $350,000. Instead of luring victims into opening a malicious PDF or directly downloading malware, this method tricks victims into following instructions to fix microphone and video access issues.
The attackers present the interviewees with lengthy interview questions requiring recorded responses via "Willo | Video Interviewing." However, victims encounter problems when granting microphone and camera permissions, and are then told they are experiencing a cache issue—followed by being provided a so-called "solution" to fix it.
Monahan explained that the malware creates a "backdoor" for attackers to access the victim's device, potentially draining their cryptocurrency holdings.
