TechFlow reported on December 17, according to Cointelegraph, that the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided a cryptocurrency scam center in Lagos on December 10, arresting 792 suspects, including 148 Chinese nationals and 40 Filipino citizens.
Ken Gamble, co-founder of cybercrime investigation firm IFW Global, revealed that the fraud syndicate offered Nigerian employees a monthly salary of $500 plus performance commissions—ten times the local minimum wage. Investigations show that Chinese criminal groups provided technological support, infrastructure, and funding, primarily targeting users in North America and Europe with "pig-butchering" scams.
