TechFlow news, on December 16, according to The Paper, the Wenchang City People's Court in Hainan Province recently concluded a case involving the use of cryptocurrency transactions for trading personal information. Court investigations revealed that defendant Han purchased over 82.24 million personal data records in 2021 via QQ for 500 yuan, including 7.27 million photos of individuals holding ID cards, 30.69 million vehicle owner details, and 1.07 million bank user records.
In March 2023, Han sold this data through platforms such as QQ, WeChat, and Telegram, collaborating with courier worker Wu to obtain express delivery transaction information. The data was priced at 1.5 yuan RMB per item in USDT, generating 770 yuan in profits through conversion on the OKX platform. The court sentenced Han to one year and eight months in prison and imposed a fine of 3,000 yuan for violating citizens' personal information rights. Co-defendant Wu received an eight-month sentence, suspended for one year and four months, along with a 2,000 yuan fine.
