TechFlow news — On December 11, according to DL News, following the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4, a meme coin linked to suspect Luigi Mangione surged in popularity on the Solana blockchain, briefly reaching a market cap of $77 million before sharply declining to $17 million.
Another token tied to the incident, "Deny. Defend. Depose" (a phrase found engraved on shell casings at the crime scene), once reached a market cap of $3.4 million but has since dropped to $836,000. Eight related prediction markets emerged on Polymarket, amassing nearly $500,000 in total wagers, including $56,000 bet on "What will Luigi Mangione say in his manifesto?"
Industry observers commented: "Solana meme coins have again proven to be the fastest news source—tokens linked to Luigi Mangione were launched within minutes of the incident." However, such meme coins based on violent events have sparked ethical debates within the industry. Previously, platforms like pump.fun were banned in the UK over meme coins featuring racist content.
