TechFlow reported on November 26 that, according to The Block, Nick Johnson, founder and chief developer of ENS (Ethereum Name Service), has detailed an upcoming "L2-agnostic" scaling solution called Namechain from ENS Labs. This initiative aims to lower user entry barriers by allowing users to begin their ENS domain registration journey from any Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network.
As a significant upgrade to the decentralized domain name service protocol, the launch of Namechain will substantially enhance cross-chain interoperability within the ENS ecosystem. Johnson stated that this innovative solution will break the current limitation requiring users to register domains exclusively on the Ethereum mainnet, thereby providing greater convenience for a broader L2 user base.
This upgrade reflects ENS's continuous innovation in scaling technology and demonstrates the project’s commitment to improving user experience and reducing usage costs. As a key infrastructure component of the Ethereum ecosystem, this move by ENS will pave the way for mass adoption of Web3 domain services.
Previous report, ENS announced the development of its own Layer 2 network, Namechain, scheduled to launch by the end of 2025.
