TechFlow news, November 15 — According to DLNews, the well-known satirical news website The Onion announced its acquisition of bankrupt far-right media platform Infowars, stating it will accept Bitcoin payments. Ben Collins, CEO of The Onion, said the revamped Infowars will transform into a self-satirizing platform focused on mocking figures such as the site’s founder, Alex Jones.
The acquisition has received support from families of victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Previously, Jones was ordered by courts to pay approximately $1.5 billion in damages for spreading conspiracy theories claiming the tragedy was a "hoax," leading him to file for bankruptcy protection. Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun safety advocacy organization, will become the exclusive advertiser on the new platform.
The Onion has already published its first satirical article about the acquisition, featuring fictional CEO Bryce P. Tetraeder claiming they “acquired this forgotten man’s website for less than one trillion dollars.” Collins stated their intention is to turn it into a “very stupid” website that delivers “an unending stream of humor” to users.
