TechFlow news — On November 5, according to CNN, Suzan DelBene, the Democratic leader in charge of House campaign efforts, said in an interview with CNN that it could take a week or longer to determine control of the House of Representatives. This warning stems from the widespread use of mail-in voting, which has made vote counting more time-consuming.
DelBene recalled the 2022 midterm elections, when it took eight days to determine which party secured the majority in the House. She expects this year's election could take just as long or even longer. "Some races are extremely close, especially in states like Washington, where I am, and ballots postmarked by Election Day are still being accepted—this means results could take longer to finalize," DelBene explained.
Notably, in 2022, Republicans won control of the House by a margin of just around 6,675 votes across the five closest districts, with some races decided by fewer than 1,000 votes. Drawing on that experience, DelBene is preparing her colleagues for potentially delayed results once again.
