TechFlow news, October 31 — According to Cointelegraph, the Victoria Police in Australia have seized cryptocurrency assets worth USD 142,679, marking the first such action following recent legal amendments that grant law enforcement authority over digital assets.
On October 31, Victoria Police released their 2023–2024 annual report, highlighting the "new powers" granted under the updated Confiscation Act 1997, specifically Section 92A, which allows for the seizure of digital assets pursuant to a search warrant.
Since August 1, 2023, this legal amendment has empowered police in Victoria to seize cryptocurrencies held by offenders through search warrants.
