TechFlow news — On October 18, according to TechCrunch, Worldcoin announced its rebranding to World and unveiled its next-generation iris-scanning "Orb" device along with other tools at a live event in San Francisco. Alex Blania, CEO of World, stated that the name change signifies the company's potential expansion beyond its original cryptocurrency-focused mission. Although OpenAI CEO Sam Altman remains actively involved in World’s decision-making, Blania emphasized that the two companies operate with independent missions.
The new Orb device offers higher production efficiency, fewer components, and three times faster operation speed. World plans to offer at-home iris scanning services through a partnership with Rappi, Latin America’s largest food delivery service. Additionally, the company introduced Deep Face technology designed to combat online deepfakes and identity impersonation. World also announced the launch of a beta version of World ID credentials, intended as an alternative to government-issued IDs for online use.
