TechFlow news, on October 5, according to Xinhua News Agency citing multiple media reports, Brazil's Supreme Court said it will delay its decision on whether to lift the ban on X's operations in Brazil because the platform transferred the fine to an incorrect bank account. On October 4, X submitted a request to Brazil's Supreme Court stating that it had paid a 28.6 million reais (approximately $5.24 million) fine and hoped to resume operations in Brazil. However, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes responded that although X paid the full amount of the fine, the funds were not deposited into the court-designated account.
De Moraes demanded that X immediately re-transfer the payment and stated that once the fine is confirmed as received, he will seek the Brazilian Attorney General's opinion on the request to resume operations. X's legal team denied any transfer error and argued that consulting the Attorney General is unnecessary, again urging the court to approve resumption of its services. Previously, on August 30, 2024, De Moraes ruled to suspend X's operations in Brazil, citing the platform's failure to comply with orders to shut down accounts spreading hate speech and disinformation, as well as its failure to timely appoint a legal representative in Brazil.
