TechFlow news, Ethereum core developers held their 142nd Consensus Layer (ACDC) call on September 19 to discuss the possibility of splitting the Pectra upgrade. The meeting was chaired by Ethereum Foundation researcher Alex Stokes and focused on the debate over dividing the Pectra upgrade into two parts. Developers also discussed unresolved issues regarding Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) in Pectra Devnet 3, as well as whether to introduce a blob gas target in the first part of the Pectra upgrade.
A majority of developers favor releasing the eight EIPs from Devnet 3 as the first part of Pectra as soon as possible, though disagreements remain regarding the scope and timeline for the second part.
Some developers expressed concerns that splitting the upgrade might delay critical features such as PeerDAS, EOF, and Verkle trees. The meeting also covered proposals to increase blob capacity to support L2 scaling, but developers noted that more data is needed to assess the impact.
Stokes stated that the development team will continue discussing these issues before Pectra's official launch.
