TechFlow news, on September 18, according to The Block, Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan recently stated that despite Ethereum currently facing numerous challenges, it could still become a potential contrarian investment opportunity by year-end. Since 2024, Ethereum's price performance has been poor, with the ETH/BTC ratio falling to its lowest level in three years. Hougan pointed out that factors such as U.S. election risks, underwhelming ETF performance, increasing competition, and growing focus on Layer 2 networks have negatively impacted Ethereum’s performance. However, he emphasized that Ethereum continues to dominate several key areas of the cryptocurrency ecosystem, including stablecoin issuance, DeFi asset lockups, and prediction markets. Hougan likened Ethereum to "the Microsoft of blockchain," believing the market may reassess its value before year-end. He said: "It's cool to hate Ethereum right now, but I bet this will ultimately look foolish."
