TechFlow news, September 4 — According to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) closed its Miami office in May 2024. The firm had established a branch in Miami Beach in 2022, aiming to help transform the city into a tech hub for the tropics.
The move underscores the cooling of Miami's tech boom. Since the collapse of FTX in 2022, the local cryptocurrency industry has suffered significant setbacks. According to PitchBook data, Miami-based companies raised only $400 million in Q2 2024, far below the $5.5 billion raised across the entire year of 2022. An a16z representative confirmed the firm no longer operates an office in Miami but declined further comment. Sources said the closure was due to insufficient employee usage.
