TechFlow news, on August 27, according to Reuters, Nasdaq announced it has filed an application with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch and trade Bitcoin index options. According to Nasdaq's proposal, the Bitcoin index option will track the CME CF Bitcoin Real-Time Index developed by CF Benchmarks, which is used to monitor Bitcoin futures and options contracts offered by CME Group.
The SEC has not yet approved any options products based on spot Bitcoin ETFs launched in January, including Nasdaq’s previous application for options on BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT). Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise, said: "The introduction of Bitcoin options is critical to the full normalization of this asset class. Currently, we are missing the liquidity layer that ETF options can provide."
