TechFlow news, on August 27, according to Coindesk, cryptocurrency investment firm Galaxy Digital released a research report suggesting that the arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in France may mark just the beginning of stricter social media platform regulation. The report indicates that Durov's arrest might be related to Telegram's refusal to comply with European or French government requests to remove or provide information. Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy, noted it remains unclear whether the charges against Durov involve the TON blockchain or Telegram’s integration with TON.
The report emphasizes that although the TON blockchain has over 350 global validator nodes, the number of nodes actually controlled by Telegram is unknown, raising doubts about TON's resilience in the face of government crackdowns. Galaxy pointed out that TON's value heavily depends on its integration with Telegram. How future blockchain projects avoid accusations of aiding criminal activities may hinge on their degree of decentralization. While French prosecutors indicated Durov could potentially be released as early as Wednesday this week, participants on prediction platform Polymarket remain skeptical, instead favoring bets that he will be released by the end of September.
