TechFlow news, August 23 — According to Cointelegraph, cybersecurity firm Moonlock has warned that the AMOS infostealer targeting Mac users can now clone Ledger Live software and may soon replicate other wallet applications. This malware spreads by disguising itself as several popular MacOS programs through Google Adsense ads.
AMOS can replace specific cryptocurrency wallet apps with cloned versions, easily draining victims' digital wallets. Although Ledger devices store private keys in hardware, attackers could trick users into making mistakes by displaying fraudulent information. Moonlock stated that future versions might clone software wallets such as MetaMask and Trust Wallet.
To mitigate risks, Mac users should exercise caution when downloading software from advertisements and instead use search engines to locate official application websites. Despite Google's filtering measures, malicious programs continue to propagate through its advertising platform.
