TechFlow news — On August 12, according to Cointelegraph, Jason Lau, Chief Innovation Officer at OKX, said that as interest in Web3 gaming continues to grow, OKX believes a platform similar to Steam is needed to support the development of the crypto gaming ecosystem. Lau emphasized that Web3 gaming is still in its early stages and has yet to fully leverage the advantages of Web3 elements. He believes Web3 games must continue experimenting with unique game mechanics to create engaging content that breaks away from Web2 gaming models and builds sustainable communities. Developers should also focus on community building by educating players about the benefits of Web3 technology.
In July, OKX launched OKX GameSphere to accelerate the growth of Web3 gaming. The platform enables developers to integrate Web3 components such as NFTs and cryptocurrencies. Lau noted that since the platform's launch, developers have appreciated the support provided in areas like Web3 mechanics, user experience, liquidity, and distribution.
Steam, a widely popular digital gaming platform offering chat and multiplayer features, is projected to generate $8.8 billion in revenue by 2028. However, it banned blockchain games in 2021, blocking the release of cryptocurrency and NFT content. Despite this, the crypto gaming ecosystem on native Web3 platforms remains vibrant. Lau mentioned that since the launch of GameSphere, a variety of Web3 games have been launched, ranging from football simulations to Web3 massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs).
