TechFlow news — OpenAI has announced the appointment of Zico Kolter to its board of directors, where he will also serve on the Safety and Security Committee.
Kolter is the Department Head and Professor of Machine Learning at Carnegie Mellon University, with research focused on AI safety, alignment, and robustness of machine learning classifiers. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University and previously conducted postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Kolter has made significant contributions to the field of machine learning, including developing the first method for deep learning models with guaranteed robustness, as well as more recently creating innovative approaches for automatically evaluating the safety of large language models. Beyond academia, Kolter holds several key industry roles, including Chief Expert at Bosch and Chief Technical Advisor at Gray Swan.
