TechFlow reports that on July 30, Vitalik Buterin delivered a keynote speech titled "The Next 10 Years of Ethereum" at EDCON 2024, an Ethereum developer community conference. He reviewed Ethereum's significant progress in fees, transaction inclusion time, and wallet security, and predicted that within the next five years, smart contract wallets such as Safe will see widespread adoption. He referenced EtherTweet, a decentralized Twitter project from 2015, compared to Firefly in 2024—a more scalable client combining Farcaster, Twitter, and Lens.
Looking ahead to the next decade, Buterin stated that by 2034, Ethereum's scalability and transaction costs will be greatly improved, with user experience and security integrated to offer safer experiences than traditional Web2 services. Using Ethereum L2s will feel as seamless as using the mainnet directly. He emphasized that developers should move beyond Web2 paradigms and explore emerging fields such as wearable devices, on-device AI, AR, and BCI. Additionally, he mentioned the possibility of embedding technologies like community notes and prediction markets directly into wallets or browsers to enhance security verification and user experience.
