TechFlow News — Senators Cynthia Lummis and Tim Scott delivered speeches at Bitcoin 2024 in Nashville on July 26. Contrary to earlier rumors, Lummis did not introduce legislation to designate Bitcoin as a U.S. strategic reserve asset. Lummis criticized the SEC for regulating the industry through enforcement actions rather than clear regulations, and highlighted the Republican Party's revised platform protecting digital asset ownership and custody.
Scott proposed the idea of using Bitcoin to create "opportunity zones." Both senators also discussed Bitcoin mining's potential contributions to America's energy infrastructure.
Previously, industry figures such as Mark Cuban and Bryan Courchesne expressed optimism about Bitcoin becoming a strategic reserve asset, while Ari Paul of BlockTower Capital held an opposing view.
