TechFlow reported, according to Cointelegraph, that a U.S. federal judge has approved a class-action lawsuit against cryptocurrency and stock trading platform Robinhood, along with a $9 million settlement to resolve claims related to its "refer-a-friend" program, which allegedly allowed unsolicited text messages to be sent in Washington state.
Robinhood's "refer-a-friend" program allowed users to generate and send text messages via the trading app to their mobile contacts, inviting them to join the platform. According to the 2021 lawsuit, this practice violated Washington state's Commercial Email Act and Consumer Protection Act.
