TechFlow reports that Dangerous Things in Seattle and VivoKey Technologies have introduced a novel way to carry cryptocurrency at all times: implanting it into your body.
These hardware wallets store and send cryptocurrency via subdermal implants. According to VivoKey founder and CEO Amal Graafstra, the smartphone app serves as the interface, but private keys and transaction signatures are handled within the chip itself.
The Apex chip can not only store Bitcoin but also be used to unlock doors or pay for coffee. It currently supports the Satochip wallet, Seedkeeper application, and Status IM key card wallet. The Apex Flex implant device is priced at $349.
Graafstra has been using RFID implant technology since 2005, initially motivated by the convenience of unlocking doors. Customers are willing to pay a premium for secure and permanent implantable devices.
