TechFlow news — According to The Block, Consensys, the development company behind MetaMask, has announced the acquisition of cryptocurrency security application Wallet Guard to enhance MetaMask's security capabilities. Wallet Guard offers a popular browser extension that detects scams and wallet theft in real time. Consensys plans to integrate Wallet Guard’s browser extension and security engine into MetaMask to further protect users’ wallets, digital assets, and data from theft and fraud.
As part of the transaction, the entire Wallet Guard team will join Consensys. Notably, in February this year, Consensys had already integrated Blockaid security alerts into MetaMask, which is expected to prevent hundreds of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency theft in 2024. According to a report by Chainalysis, over $1.7 billion worth of crypto assets were stolen through scams in 2023.
