TechFlow reports, citing DL News, that the Trump-themed meme coin DJT on Ethereum surged in popularity after tech publication Pirate Wires reported it was launched with Trump's support. However, the lack of communication from Trump's campaign team has sparked public skepticism about the report's authenticity. An insider familiar with the Trump campaign's decision-making process revealed that the campaign team was not involved in the project.
An early proponent of the claim that DJT is the "official Trump coin" is former pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli, who challenged members of the cryptocurrency community to a $100 million bet with pseudonymous crypto trader GCR—though the bet was later canceled due to disagreements over terms.
Shkreli later claimed he co-created the token with Barron Trump, the youngest son of Donald Trump, and that Barron holds the majority of the tokens and is the sole beneficiary of the project. However, this claim has not been independently verified. Currently, Polymarket odds suggest only a 3% chance that Trump or a family member launched the token.
