TechFlow news — According to a sentencing memorandum filed on Tuesday, former FTX executive Ryan Salame pleaded guilty to charges related to election fraud, and his legal team is requesting leniency, asking the court to impose an 18-month sentence.
Salame's lawyers stated that during his time at FTX and Alameda, he was primarily responsible for handling customer bank deposits and fiat currency exchanges, as well as managing political donations and leading charitable initiatives in the Bahamas. They argued that Salame played a peripheral role in the now-defunct companies and emphasized his cooperative attitude, genuine remorse, efforts to address substance abuse issues, and the significant personal and financial losses he suffered due to the exchange’s collapse.
They noted that Salame was the first to report knowledge of the FTX fraud to Bahamian authorities and voluntarily provided documents to U.S. prosecutors without being served a grand jury subpoena. The defense also argued that media scrutiny surrounding FTX and Salame’s association with Bankman-Fried will result in lifelong punishment, making it nearly impossible for him to find future employment.
