TechFlow news, according to CoinDesk, Keonne Rodriguez, co-founder of Samourai Wallet, pleaded not guilty on Monday in a Manhattan court to two criminal charges related to the creation and marketing of a privacy-focused Bitcoin wallet application and mixing service.
Rodriguez and his Samourai Wallet co-founder William Lonergan Hill were arrested last week, each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering and one count of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitting business. The charges carry maximum sentences of 20 years and 5 years, respectively. Prosecutors allege that from 2015 until last week, when Samourai Wallet's servers were seized, the app "facilitated over $100 million in money laundering transactions for illicit darknet markets," with approximately $2 billion in total "illicit transactions."
On Monday, Magistrate Judge Barbara Moses ruled that Rodriguez be released on a $1 million bail. His next hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. on May 14 in Manhattan.
