TechFlow News — About two months after being acquired by heavyweight NFT player Yuga Labs, Moonbirds has announced a major shift. The NFT collection will now strengthen commercial rights for holders when monetizing individual Moonbirds, the team stated on X.
"Starting today, Moonbirds joins Mythics as a collection with commercial rights," the post read. "If you made something during the CC0 era, that's cool. But going forward, you'll need to own a Moonbird to keep doing it." This move surprised some holders, recalling how Moonbirds abruptly changed its copyright model back in 2022.
At that time, Moonbirds adopted the Creative Commons CC0 license, placing its artwork into the public domain and allowing unrestricted commercial use without requiring permission from owners. Meanwhile, Moonbirds was acquired by Yuga Labs in February, the powerful NFT studio behind Bored Ape Yacht Club and owner of the CryptoPunks IP.
