TechFlow reports, according to court documents, although the Department of Justice requested a 36-month prison sentence and a $50 million fine for CZ, the Probation Office recommended in its statement report a five-month probation. Meanwhile, the defense has requested home confinement and probation, opposing any prison time.
Tama Kudman, partner at Kudman Trachten Aloe Posner LLP, said the DOJ's push for a longer sentence appears to be sending a strong message. The U.S. Department of Justice has been intensifying efforts to crack down on money laundering through cryptocurrencies, and CZ was "blatantly disregarding anti-money laundering rules."
