TechFlow news, according to Cointelegraph, Van Eck's senior digital asset investment analyst Patrick Bush and head of digital asset research Matthew Sigel stated in a report that Ethereum's Layer-2 scaling networks will reach a market capitalization of $1 trillion within six years and will consist of thousands of use-case-specific chains.
Bush and Sigel arrived at the $1 trillion market cap forecast by estimating that Ethereum will capture 60% of the total public blockchain market share, followed by estimating the volume of assets within the Ethereum ecosystem.
The analysts said L2s on the base Ethereum network could generate "significant" revenue in the future. "We expect L2 revenue to surpass that of Ethereum, as Ethereum cannot match the transaction throughput or user experience of L2s."
