TechFlow reports that the founder of a cryptocurrency mixing service called Bitcoin Fog was found guilty in federal court in Washington for helping launder tens of millions of dollars from darknet markets known for illegal drug sales.
The jury concluded on Tuesday that Roman Sterlingov, 35, provided services that obscured digital tokens, making it more difficult to trace the origins of proceeds from illicit activities. The government alleged that Bitcoin Fog processed over $400 million in untraceable transactions, including funds from illegal marketplaces.
