TechFlow reports that Polygon has announced the Etrog upgrade for zkEVM will go live on the mainnet next month, enabling precompiled smart contracts and upgrading the network to a Type 2 ZK-EVM—a zero-knowledge rollup equivalent to the EVM. Developers can test and validate the Etrog upgrade on the Cardona testnet. After the upgrade, developers will be able to deploy their code on Polygon zkEVM without requiring additional audits or modifications.
For end users, no action is required to continue using Polygon zkEVM. The Etrog upgrade also introduces support for five additional precompiled smart contracts—ecAdd, ecMul, ecPairing, Sha256, and modexp—and improves transaction batch processing, which is expected to enhance network efficiency and overall throughput.
