TechFlow reports that Bitmap Tech has announced the launch of Merlin Chain, a Layer 2 solution for Bitcoin. This initiative aims to scale Bitcoin's native assets, protocols, and user ecosystem on Layer 1, unlocking their potential on Layer 2.
Bitmap Tech has long been dedicated to Bitcoin Layer 1 development, including projects such as Bitmap.Game, the BRC-420 protocol, and Recursiverse. Both Bitmap and BRC-420 have gained significant user adoption on Bitcoin Layer 1, establishing themselves as market leaders.
Merlin will support multiple Bitcoin Layer 1 protocols and employ Cobo's MPC multi-signature solution to ensure fund security, along with undergoing audits by multiple security firms to guarantee robustness.
Through its collaboration with Particle Network, Merlin introduces the BTC Connect module, enabling users to create an interoperable account-abstraction wallet using their native BTC wallets across multiple blockchains. Merlin will drive further innovation based on Bitcoin’s native assets—for example, building a gaming matrix around Bitmap, creating DeFi applications based on BRC-420, and enabling lower-cost inscription minting on Layer 2. Merlin Chain will also serve as an entry point for users to experience Bitcoin-native applications.
