TechFlow news, according to Bitcoin.com, Egypt plans to issue a central bank digital currency (CBDC), known as the digital pound, by 2030. The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) will issue this digital currency, which is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Egypt's national currency and improve the efficiency of monetary policy.
A research report commissioned by the Information and Decision Support Center of Egypt's Cabinet of Ministers elaborated on the details of the North African country's CBDC objectives. The document, titled "Key Strategic Directions for the Egyptian Economy in the New Presidential Era (2024–2030)," outlines policies deemed critical for Egypt's economy over the next six years.
In addition to listing the launch of a CBDC among its priorities, the document urges Egyptian monetary authorities to continue developing the financial sector, aiming—just like the CBDC rollout—to help achieve 100% financial inclusion in Egypt by 2030.
