TechFlow news — According to The Wall Street Journal, SBF has been placed in the same cell as Juan Orlando Hernández, the former president of Honduras who is awaiting trial on charges of accepting bribes from drug traffickers. According to Hernández’s lawyer, the two have gotten along well and have had "friendly conversations." SBF's requests for a vegetarian diet and ADHD medication in prison have been accommodated.
Meanwhile, SBF is allowed one non-attorney visitor per week and is permitted to use a special laptop to review legal documents, although his computer access is restricted to a dedicated room with partitioned desks. SBF’s spokesperson, Mark Botnick, said SBF is “making the best of his situation.”
In addition, SBF has been trading mackerel (a commonly edible fish found near the western Pacific and Atlantic coasts) with other inmates in exchange for services. Before his November trial, he traded an unspecified number of mackerel for a haircut. According to a person familiar with the matter, SBF also offered cryptocurrency investment advice to correctional officers.
SBF is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a facility notorious for its poor conditions. He will later be transferred to a federal prison to serve his sentence.
Although SBF has been convicted, he has not yet been sentenced. His sentencing is scheduled for March 28, 2024. He faces a maximum sentence of 115 years in prison, though some experts believe he will receive a sentence of less than 25 years.
