TechFlow — According to an official announcement, Optimism has revealed that its first network upgrade following Bedrock, "Canyon," will activate on testnets (OP Goerli, OP Sepolia, Base Goerli, Base Sepolia, PGN Sepolia, Zora Sepolia) at 1:00 AM UTC+8 on November 15. This network upgrade was collaboratively built and implemented with Base. Activation of the Canyon hard fork on the OP Mainnet, Base, and other mainnets within the Superchain still requires approval through the Optimism governance process.
The Canyon upgrade includes support for the Shanghai and Capella hard forks, along with fixes for minor bugs. Canyon also introduces specific adjustments to the OP Stack. The upgrade will increase the EIP-1559 denominator from 50 to 250, slowing down the rate at which block basefee increases when gas usage exceeds the target. Users will not be affected by this testnet upgrade. Node operators are required to upgrade their nodes following the Canyon activation.
