TechFlow news, according to the Global Times citing Israel's Haaretz newspaper, the U.S. Department of Defense said that on Thursday (the 26th), U.S. military forces conducted strikes against two facilities in eastern Syria belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its affiliated organizations, in response to a series of recent attacks targeting American troops stationed in Iraq and Syria.
The report stated that U.S. Secretary of Defense Austin said in a statement: "These precise defensive strikes are in response to a continuing series of mostly unsuccessful attacks by Iran-backed militia groups against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria since October 17."
The report noted that the airstrikes were ordered by U.S. President Biden.
According to earlier reports, a U.S. military spokesperson said on October 25 local time that U.S. forces stationed in the Middle East had been attacked 14 times between October 17 and 24, with 11 attacks occurring in Iraq and three in Syria, resulting in injuries to 24 soldiers. In response to these attacks, the U.S.-led coalition has begun live-fire ground combat exercises at military bases in Iraq and Syria, claiming the drills are "intended to verify weapon systems and maintain crew proficiency and readiness." It is reported that approximately 900 U.S. troops are currently stationed in eastern Syria and about 2,500 in Iraq.
