TechFlow news — The U.S. Department of the Treasury plans to designate international cryptocurrency mixers as money laundering hubs because Hamas and other terrorist organizations are using them, according to The Wall Street Journal. This designation is a form of sanction that will require specific reporting on all financial transactions.
Wally Adeyemo, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, said, "This action underscores the Department's commitment to combating the misuse of convertible virtual currency mixers by a range of illicit actors, including state-affiliated cyber actors, cybercriminals, and terrorist organizations. More broadly, the Department is actively countering terrorist organizations’ illegal use of various aspects of the CVC ecosystem, including Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad."
