TechFlow news — Pudgy Penguins founder Luca Netz shared a tweet thread summarizing his entrepreneurial journey and personal growth. He mentioned that over the past eight years, he has been actively involved in entrepreneurship, experiencing numerous challenges and difficulties.
-
During high school, Luca Netz became frustrated with academics and faced family struggles, prompting him to drop out and start earning money. He initially tried organizing underground rap concerts in Los Angeles but later realized such events carried significant risks, so he decided to seek employment instead.
-
He began working at Ring in packaging, eventually advancing to roles in quality control and returns management. However, recognizing limited upward mobility within the company, he started teaching himself through online courses and entered the e-commerce space, launching his first venture by dropshipping jewelry.
-
As the business grew, he shifted from pure dropshipping to a more efficient model—buying inventory upfront and stocking products in the U.S. He ultimately sold this business to his main competitor at the time.
-
He then pivoted toward monetizing social influence, collaborating with social media influencers to build direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands based on their personas. While he handled product development, fulfillment, customer service, and website building, the influencers retained control over product selection and branding.
-
He founded Netz Capital, investing in various companies including footwear stores, SaaS products, and other DTC brands. However, some of these brands faced setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
-
During the pandemic, he became passionate about NFTs and engaged in PFP projects. At a friend’s request, he joined the Spooky Boys NFT project but later had disagreements with his partners and ultimately chose to exit.
-
Recognizing rising social media advertising costs as an opportunity, he began acquiring ad placements on Instagram pages and reselling them at a premium, eventually generating substantial profits.
-
Eventually, he decided to acquire the Pudgy Penguins project, transitioning into being an NFT trader. He believed the project had the potential to become a flagship brand in the NFT space.
-
Luca Netz and his team are now committed to building a mass-market brand in Web3, determined to grow the company the right way and set a benchmark for intellectual property development in the Web3 era.
