TechFlow reports that The Associated Press (AP) has announced a partnership agreement with OpenAI, authorizing OpenAI to use portions of AP's text archives. In return, AP will leverage OpenAI's technology and product expertise. Notably, AP is the first major news organization to enter into a paid agreement with a leading artificial intelligence platform.
According to sources familiar with the matter, News Corp, the parent company of The Wall Street Journal, has begun working with internal and external advisors to assess the value of its content for AI training. The assessment could influence future negotiations with companies such as Google and Microsoft. News Corp also owns The Times of London and The New York Post. Additionally, News Corp is exploring the use of blockchain technology to protect its intellectual property. It plans to tag individual content items using blockchain to detect whether AI companies are using News Corp content without authorization, and may seek licensing fees accordingly.
