TechFlow news: Russia is expected to begin testing its digital ruble, a central bank digital currency (CBDC), within weeks.
A bill granting legal authority for the central bank's digital currency was passed on Wednesday by the Federation Council, Russia's upper house of parliament, and now awaits signature by President Putin to take effect. If signed into law, testing of the digital ruble will commence on August 1.
If approved, Russia would become one of the largest adopters of a CBDC globally to date.
