TechFlow news — Twitter has been hacked due to a security vulnerability, resulting in the exposure of contact information from approximately 5.4 million user accounts. Twitter has officially confirmed the existence of this security flaw.
The leaked data includes Twitter IDs along with associated phone numbers and email addresses, which are now being offered for sale on a hacker forum for $30,000 (approximately 202,800 CNY).
According to Restore Privacy, the breach may stem from a vulnerability discovered in January that allowed attackers to retrieve phone numbers and email addresses linked to Twitter accounts—even if users had hidden these fields in their privacy settings.
The owner of the hacker forum verified the authenticity of the attack, and Restore Privacy also examined the data, confirming its validity by matching records to actual Twitter users. When Restore Privacy contacted the seller, they were informed the database was priced at $30,000.
The report suggests the attacker likely obtained existing databases of phone numbers and email addresses compromised from other services, then used this information to search for and identify corresponding Twitter IDs.
