TechFlow news, privacy browser Brave has announced the launch of STAR, a privacy-preserving data collection system. STAR uses the k-anonymity algorithm to protect user privacy while enabling users to contribute and share data. The system offers privacy levels comparable to or higher than existing systems, utilizes established cryptographic tools rather than cryptographic primitives for better understandability, requires no specialized hardware for deployment thus reducing costs, and can deliver accurate results even for small user groups.
The STAR system will be introduced at the 2022 ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security held in Los Angeles, and standardization through IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) is currently under discussion.
