TechFlow news — Block (formerly Square) said Monday that a former employee improperly downloaded Cash App Investing reports containing data of U.S. customers. According to a regulatory filing, the payment company is notifying approximately 8.2 million current and former customers about this breach.
The employee had regular access to these reports as part of their job duties, but the access occurred on December 10, after the employment relationship had ended.
Block stated that the reports included customers’ full names and unique brokerage account numbers. Some customers had additional data in the reports, including portfolio value, holdings, and daily trading activity. However, the reports did not contain usernames, passwords, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, payment card or bank account information, addresses, or other personally identifiable information.
