TechFlow news, according to a statement from the German Federal Police on Tuesday, the Cybercrime Unit of the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office and the Federal Criminal Police confiscated 543 BTC while inspecting servers of the Hydra Market website. The federal police discovered 17 million customer accounts and 19,000 seller accounts. According to the statement, Hydra Market may have been the world’s highest-turnover illicit marketplace. Authorities stated that in 2020 alone, the market generated revenues of 1.23 billion euros (1.35 billion U.S. dollars), and this Russian-language platform also featured an integrated Bitcoin privacy mixer, complicating transaction tracing.
Hydra Market has been operational since 2015 and was accessible via the Tor browser. The website has now been removed from the internet. Authorities noted that the investigation began in August 2021 and also involved U.S. law enforcement agencies.
