TechFlow News — According to Reuters, The Sandbox, a Hong Kong-based NFT gaming company, has announced a $93 million funding round led by SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2. This marks the first time that Vision Fund 2 has invested in a company issuing its own cryptocurrency. Sebastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox, said in an interview that the new funding will help drive growth in The Sandbox creator economy, expanding from gaming into fashion, architecture, and virtual concerts.
The Sandbox is majority-owned by blockchain game developer Animoca Brands and allows players to build, own, and monetize their virtual gaming experiences on the Ethereum blockchain. It provides creators with NFT ownership and tools to create assets on the platform. The Sandbox has already announced partnerships with several brands and celebrities, including rapper Snoop Dogg, who will create a digital replica of his home within The Sandbox metaverse.
