TechFlow News – According to an official blog post, a16z announced its investment in the social DAO "Friends with Benefits," though the investment amount was not disclosed. a16z stated it will provide guidance and plans to empower key community members to actively participate in governance through delegation.
"Friends with Benefits" (FWB) is a new type of DAO that requires a written application to join, which is reviewed and voted on by the community itself, along with holding a minimum amount of FWB tokens to represent ownership within the DAO. Since launching as a social experiment in September 2020, FWB has grown to nearly 2,000 members. Beyond hosting parties worldwide, it has launched a "token-gated events" application, an NFT gallery, a Web3-focused editorial operation, and a virtual music studio. Upcoming initiatives like "FWB Cities" aim to expand the DAO's real-world presence by collaborating with specific urban spaces and communities to deliver tangible benefits to FWB members in physical locations.
