TechFlow News — Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin responded to Matter Labs' recently disclosed zkPorter scaling solution, stating that he does not believe zkPorter offers stronger security guarantees than Optimistic Rollup. He would prefer to keep assets in an Optimistic Rollup rather than in a system relying on off-chain data availability. The security level of zkPorter's off-chain data availability is lower than that of the base layer and lacks tight coupling. In contrast, the data availability layer within sharding will be protected by the entire Ethereum network and will feature tight coupling. While it may be acceptable for some applications to use off-chain data availability temporarily, this should only be considered a provisional measure before shard-based data availability becomes available. However, Buterin believes such a temporary approach is unnecessary.
