TechFlow news — Pornhub, the world's largest adult website, announced today that it will accept cryptocurrency as its default payment method. This comes after Visa and Mastercard cut off payment support for the site last week. Pornhub Premium now natively supports 13 different cryptocurrencies. Mastercard and Visa cited long-standing concerns over illegal content on Pornhub as the reason for terminating their services.
The immediate catalyst was a December 4 article by New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof titled "The Children Destroyed by Pornhub," which highlighted cases of child sexual abuse material on the platform. In the piece, Kristof questioned why search engines, banks, or credit card companies would continue supporting a company that profits from the sexual exploitation of children or unconscious women. "If PayPal can suspend its relationship with Pornhub, American Express, Mastercard, and Visa can too," he wrote.
