On November 4, 2020, according to an official announcement from Binance, the Binance security team successfully recovered 99.9% of user funds lost in the exit scam DeFi project WineSwap, amounting to over $344,000 USD. The WineSwap incident affected a total of 119 addresses. By tracking the fund flows of WineSwap, the Binance security team froze nearly all of the stolen assets and, through various technical methods and meticulous investigative clues, ultimately located the fraud group and successfully recovered the funds. Since the scamming party had already converted the funds into other cryptocurrencies, Binance's OTC team is currently converting them back into the original tokens and will return them to users' original addresses within the coming days.
Binance officially提醒s that such recovery efforts often require substantial human and material resources, and investigative leads frequently go cold. A successful recovery like this one is extremely rare—essentially a one-in-ten-thousand stroke of luck. Users are strongly advised to conduct thorough research and exercise caution when participating in any DeFi projects, and should prioritize projects with stronger safeguards.
